Isle of Wight Hustings

Sustainability & Climate Change

Hear from Isle of Wight electoral candidates about their position on tackling sustainability and climate change.

hustings Explained

As an island, we have significant local power in areas such as housing building regulations, active transport policy, renewable energy consenting policy, local food use in schools and hospitals, and support for the island’s net zero 2040 strategy.

Our aim is to move beyond national rhetoric on climate change and have an informative debate on our options for addressing the trilemma of sharing climate responsibility, improving the wellbeing of struggling residents, and dealing with increasing climate impacts on the Isle of Wight and beyond.

We plan to host a debate in the East Wight and the West Wight, giving each candidate space to thoughtfully respond to key questions on this topic.

Hustings Organisers

Both hustings events are organised by Together for Mission Zero, a decentralised platform designed to connect, share, discuss, and build a community focused on achieving a net zero, nature-positive, and thriving society. Our approach remains apolitical; our objective is to facilitate a debate among candidates about issues that matter to our community and beyond.
